At Mott MacDonald we’ve been making our mark on some of the most
spectacular sports, stadia and leisure facilities in the world. One
of our newest assignments is Mbombela Stadium in South Africa where
we're working on a new build 45,000 seat stadium in Nelspruit as
part of preparations for the 2010 Football World Cup.
The 316m wide iconic Wembley arch is the world’s
longest single span roof structureFor London’s new Wembley
Stadium our role in the Mott Stadium Consortium as structural and
building services designer includes engineering the iconic 133m
high arch – tall enough for the London Eye to roll underneath – and
its dramatic lighting.
We are able to offer world-class expertise with technical skills
that cover all aspects of stadia design from architecturally
innovative steel structures to expert knowledge of the structural
issues surrounding bowl design, particularly in the field of
dynamic response. Our specialists have a thorough understanding of
all public safety issues – particularly performance-based fire
safety design which is critically important for stadia. We can also
offer advanced skills in the specialist system needs of stadia,
such as pitch lighting, scoreboards and public address systems.
At Mott MacDonald we have extensive experience working as part of
successful stadia design teams involving architects, contractors
and other consultants. Our commitment has also resulted in long
term maintenance contracts with world-stage venues such as
Twickenham and Lord’s Cricket Ground.
