Redevelopment
of the Manchester joint hospitals site involved demolishing over 30
large buildings and constructing a new main hospital building and
mental health facilities plus ancillary medical and facilities
management buildings In the UK health and education
sectors we’ve gained a leading position as a supplier of
professional technical services to public sector bodies,
financiers, developers, constructors, operators and insurers using
PFI and other procurement methods to develop new facilities.
Our education portfolio includes a number of schools developed
under the UK government's Building Schools for the Future
initiative, aimed at creating world-class, 21st century schools to
inspire learning for decades to come and provide exceptional assets
for the whole community by rebuilding or renewing every secondary
school in England over a 10-15 year period.
Wherever we can we aim to include sustainability into our designs.
For the £60 million Gateshead Schools PFI project – which includes
two new secondary schools and five new primary schools on five
sites – we introduced renewable energy proposals such as roof
mounted wind turbines, thermal solar panels, photovoltaic panels
and rain water harvesting. While for the Newcastle Schools
programme we incorporated natural ventilation, intelligent control
systems, thermal efficiency, good daylighting reuse of materials
into the designs.
In the health sector we’re working on a number of major
developments including the £390 million Manchester joint hospitals
project featuring a new 124,000m
2 main hospital
building. Our portfolio also features smaller schemes such as
Milton Keynes General Hospital NHS Trust's £12 million new
diagnostic treatment centre where we provided structural
engineering design in one of the first Procure 21 partnering teams.
