Mott MacDonald Fulcrum technical director for buildings and
infrastructure, Andy Ford, has been appointed President Elect of
the Chartered Institution of Buildings Services Engineers (CIBSE).
Andy has worked extensively on innovative buildings throughout his
career and contributed to many award winning designs. His
speciality lies within creative and sustainable low energy design
solutions.
In recent years his work has taken a more specific focus in how the
industry can respond to the challenge of climate change. In
addition to his CIBSE appointment, Andy is currently chair of the
UK Green Building Council (UK-GBC) policy committee. He also serves
on the managing boards of these organisations.
Andy is responsible for the design of a number of ground breaking
UK buildings with early work on low energy buildings on the UEA
campus; including The Elizabeth Fry Building in 1994 notably still
the lowest energy non domestic building in the UK. More recently he
was engineering designer for the Jubilee Library in Brighton, which
won Prime Minister’s Best Building award, as well as achieving both
Building Services Awards Major Project of the Year and a Stirling
Prize finalist in 2005.
Andy has more than 30 years’ experience in the building services
sector and is a founding director of Fulcrum Consulting which
joined the Mott MacDonald Group in December 2009.
With his expertise in low energy and sustainable buildings, this
appointment will allow Andy to demonstrate CIBSE’s commitment to
increasing the value of the Institution in reducing the carbon
impact of buildings.
The role of President Elect is to assist the President and Board in
delivering the objectives set for the Institution as well as to
influence the strategy and policies of other organisations in
support of CIBSE’s objectives. The President Elect serves for one
year the automatically becomes President of the Institution. CIBSE
has almost 20,000 members worldwide and is the prime source of
expertise for sustainable buildings, harnessing its members’ skills
and knowledge to raise competence across the industry.
