Mike Barker has a passion for building design and is currently a
director leading the Group’s buildings business. His vast knowledge
of structures and architectural styling is demonstrated by his long
CV of projects including Wembley Stadium, Melbourne Cricket Ground
and Chek Lap Kok Airport in Hong Kong.
"I consider myself to be lucky, not only am I
involved in the dynamic construction industry, but the best bit,
designing buildings. Working with talented architects and designers
is challenging but very rewarding. I cannot imagine doing anything
else!"
After joining Mott MacDonald in the late 80s, Mike spent two years
working with our associate firm Connell Wagner in Australia. During
that time he co-ordinated joint business development activities
which led to his leading of an alliance of the two companies,
allowing for sharing knowledge, staff and skills and broadening the
scope of global buildings projects.
"One of the real advantages of being part of an international
business, is that we can and do tap into our global resource,
providing our clients access to current international experience,
combining with local delivery. This, especially on large projects,
has proven time and time again to yield real benefits, and I can
see this method being more prevalent in the future."
